MEMORIAL GARDEN ANNUAL REPORT

We are always kept busy with maintaining our Memorial Garden.  In 2008 we planted: three dozen heather, 2 new trees, and 3 new garden paths were accomplished.  Our southwest garden was rebuilt with sod, heather, and holly.  The southeast corner was completely trimmed and replanted.  The east gardens have been replaced with azalea, boxwood, Japanese holly, and heathers.

The statue of St. Francis received his yearly coat of white paint, and all the wall plaques were painted. The northeast corner is all new with hosta.  The north wall garden has been mostly rebuilt with evergreen and herbs.  This work has not been completed.

Our pond garden was rebuilt with sod and heather for a year round look.

2009 winter plans are to have a pine tree removed and replaced with a planted area and a teak bench; and removal of roots of 2 trees that have died.  These trees were originally planted in 1976.

Spring plans are to replace the white hydrangea tree.  A walkway in the southeast corner will be made.  The Lych Gate will be repainted.

Paul Barylski is kept busy with constant care of our garden.  Ann White is our summer “caregiver” of our many geranium pots.  You may see the 3 in the front of our church and the 4 by our Lych Gate.  Ann stops more than once a week to water, remove old flowers and give much TLC to all 12 mini gardens.  Remember to thank both Paul and Ann.

Our memorials have also added 15 engraved stones.  Seven more are to be completed as well as three new wall plaques.  With everything on our church computer, it is so much easier to keep complete records.

Respectfully submitted,

Gerry Lutz
